An exciting new piece of music receives its world premiere this Thursday, November 17. A lucky audience in London will be the first to hear The Snowman Rhapsody, composed by Howard Blake. The rhapsody is a major elaboration on the composer’s much-loved music for The Snowman – now a widely performed stage show as well as an unforgettable animated film. Interpreting the composer’s work will be Julian Trevelyan, a highly talented young classical pianist (photographed here by Monica Fritz, in rehearsal with the composer during an interview with Tony Barrell)

Organising the event is the charity Talent Unlimited, sponsored by Cornucopia, which gives much-needed assistance to gifted music students. It was the charity’s Turkish founder, Canan Maxton, who united the composer and the pianist to make this performance possible. The Snowman Rhapsody is part of the Talent Unlimited Christmas Concert at St James’s Church in Piccadilly, which also includes a programme of seasonal songs and features the versatile Turkish clarinet player Özlem Çelik. Prepare to be enchanted!

You can read much more about Canan Maxton, Talent Unlimited and The Snowman Rhapsody in the next issue of Cornucopia.

‘The Snowman Rhapsody and Christmas Music by Talent Unlimited is at St James’s Church, 197 Piccadilly, London W1, on Thursday, November 17, 7–9pm. Some tickets are still available here.
