Marc Waelkens is back in Sagalassos. From this weekend the Belgian archeologist who was profiled in Cornucopia 48 for his quarter-century working on this wonderful, remote, classical site 110km north of Antalya, begins two months of excavations with an international team of students and experts. From Sunday to Thursday they will be available to show visitors around the site and the work that is being undertaken, though a new visitor centre with information panels is on the way, and should be completed by the end of the year. Visitors are also told not to miss the nearby town of Ağlasun, a typical rural commuity with a population of just 5,000, where a traditional Turkish welcome is promised. It is being promoted as a centre for walks and trecking, with details available online at their website, from which this picture comes.
